Rizom-Lab is the company owned and created by the creator of the industry standard UV mapper Unfold3D® and its algorithms.

Created in 2003 by Rémi Arquier, Unfold3D was one of the first commercial UV mappers on the market. From the get-go, it could automatically flatten UVs without stretching and distortion. It rapidly became a staple in the CG industry, used by freelancers and indies as well as in major studio pipelines. You’ll even find Rémi’s code in Autodesk’s applications, his unwrapping algorithm is currently what powers Maya®’s standard UV Mapper.

Fast Forward to today: RizomUV is on an ever-evolving path towards the perfect UV mapping toolset, capable of segmenting, flattening and packing UVs without the need for days and hours of user  intervention. We aim at speed and ease, and we do this by focusing on user feedback, honing our code, and of course, inventing new tools and touches benefitting our users. You can reap the benefits from this in one of our two standalone applicationsRizomUV Virtual Spaces or RizomUV Real Space.  In addition, we offer pipeline or software companies access to our integratable RizomUV C++ Library.

Rizom-Lab has been created in 2016,  and only sells RizomUV’s new software. We took care to listen to our user feedback, and based our licensing model on your wishes and requests.

Dear all,

Today we received multiple messages expressing your concern about our products and their naming. Therefore, we’d like to clariy some of the issues you’ve raised about Rizom-Lab:

Rizom-Lab codes and publishes the standalone UV mappers Unfold3D v10 Virtual Spaces and Unfold3D v10 Real Space, as well as its Unfold3D C++ Library.
Older versions of Unfold 3D, from 3.0 to 8.0, have been published by Polygonal Design since 2004. Polygonal Design currently also publish Unfold 3D v 9.0.

At the end of 2015, Rémi Arquier, the owner of Rizom-Lab, also Unfold3D’s creator and developer, ended his business relations with Polygonal Design. Legal procedures were initiated to enable ownership considerations on the software source code, which was developed by Rémi.
On 2017 September 28, the High Court in Marseille (Tribunal de Grande Instance de Marseille) ruled that Polygonal Design has no rights, and can claim none on Unfold3D in any subsequent version post version 09. (Meaning 10.x and onward)
This means that Rémi Arquier remains the exclusive owner of Unfold3D software rights from version 10 and onward, and is entitled to distribute and license Unfold 3D software through his new company, Rizom-Lab.

Rémi Arquier is also the owner of the Unfold3D brand which was first registered by him in 2004, and when Rémi left in November 2015, the Unfold3D brand was never transferred to Polygonal Design.

Like you, we at Rizom-Lab are concerned about the confusion which has arisen from this situation. Sometimes business relations can get complicated, and are truly sorry you got involved in this dispute. Our lawyers have taken the necessarry steps to end any false communications.
We are currently focusing all our energy on Unfold3D’s development instead, and are thrilled to have received all of your super positive feedback on our new software version.
